Frequently asked questions.

Is this a nonprofit organization?

Yes, we are a 501c3 federally recognized nonprofit. All donations go to the upkeep and improvement of the hostel and purchase of adjacent land next to the hostel if and when it becomes available.

Are dogs allowed at the property?

Dogs (or any animals) are not allowed at the Hostel. We keep chickens on site and they often free roam. We know that YOUR dog would never eat them, but if we say yes to you, we have to say yes to everyone. The exceptions are if:

  • You rent out the entire facility.

  • During dog month - September (where we keep the chickens enclosed)!

I want to work here! How do I apply?

Fill out our form at lostriverhostel.com/workwithus. We review all applications on a rolling basis.

How long are stays? Do you have weekly/monthly rates?

All stays are limited to 7 days maximum (unless you are a staff member)

What’s included in the stay?

Your bed, access to all facilities (including showers, outdoor tub etc), towel, firewood, linen, and an evening meal. We also provide pancake batter for breakfast.

Can I store stuff in the fridge or freezer?

Can I bring children?

Yes, however anyone under the age of 10 must be supervised at all times during their stay here.

Are there any special rules?

Our only unusual rule we hold ourselves and guests to is not to use your cellphone/latop in the common farmhouse. If you want a space to get some work done, our library is excellent for that. If you get a call/text, we just ask that you duck out to take it. Everything else is common courtesy and respect.

What is your cancellation policy?

We require a 24 hour notice for cancellations. Same-day cancellations are not eligible for refund regardless of reason. We do this to ensure that if our rooms are not occupied, that they are available for other guests to book.

What are your expectations for guests?

We ask that all guests help clean up our kitchen after our communal meal. If you’d like to help out with more, just let us know and we welcome it. Whether it’s gathering wood, cooking, caring for the chickens, trail building, construction projects, or improving the grounds - we’re always loving on the hostel and would welcome your help!

How far is the local grocery/restaurant/liquor store/etc?

We are five minutes from the town of French Lick which contains all the comforts you expect from home.
